“(Malcolm’s) help was greatly appreciated because he even took my boxes to the car! It’s not often that people like him take time out to show they truly care.”
-Asheba, a 2015 Get Ready Fest attendee
In certain regions of the United States, hunger’s roots go deep. In Philadelphia, PA, Columbus, OH, and Camden, NJ, the number of households living below the poverty level is 27 percent, 22 percent, and 35% respectively.
To provide support to families who may be experiencing financial difficulties, The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation partners with Feed the Children, sponsors, and community partners to host ‘Get Ready Fest™ – a community outreach event that provides hundreds of pre-identified families with 25 pounds of food, 10 pounds of essential items, and health and wellness products and services.
In addition to providing enough food to feed a family of four for one week, the event offers an array of health-related services and information. These services include screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, asthma and basic eye and dental check-ups.
The event also provides education and social service information relating to GED, job training, and senior and veteran support services. Additionally, there is a children’s resource area that provides services like new children’s books, school supplies, haircuts, face painting, and snacks.
